One of the challenges in inspecting fibers and roll materials is the over-detection that picks up variations in good products. The "Fiber and Roll Inspection Device" is an appearance inspection device that combines image processing and AI to significantly reduce over-detection. It employs a two-stage inspection process where defect candidates are extracted through image processing and then re-evaluated by AI. This approach addresses the variations in good products that were difficult to manage with conventional image processing inspections, reducing over-detection to less than 1/10. The appearance inspection AI "Gemini eye" learns good products and, along with a periodic pattern analysis algorithm, does not react to "slight differences" such as tilting or distortion, but detects dirt and scratches. It also supports high-speed inspections with multiple cameras, reliably inspecting defects as small as 0.1mm while processing materials up to 1200mm wide at a speed of 50m/min.
